Step Outside of Your Comfort Zone (and Discover Growth)
This week, Health Coach, Cheri Timmons, gives advice on how to push yourself outside of your comfort zone to truly grow as an individual, in relationships, and in life.
Living inside of your comfort zone feels good. It is comfortable, familiar and you know what to expect.
When resistance and discomfort arise, what if you turned towards the unease instead away from it?
True growth is on the other side of what feels uncomfortable and messy. And the following questions can help:
Where is growth possible?
What is limiting me that I don’t see?
These two, succinct and powerful questions get right to the point. They invite new ways of seeing your work, no matter the situation:
Creative projects
Parenting power struggles
Challenging yoga poses
Adapting your business during a pandemic
Relationship roadblocks
Advancing in a leadership role
Realizing a lifelong dream
Enhancing your health and wellness
An answer may come to mind in the moment (sit lower in chair pose; just listen to my son; register for the program), encouraging you to do the next hard thing.
That is where the growth happens.
Sometimes, an answer does not immediately surface. By keeping your attention on these two questions and creating space for a response to develop, you will be amazed at how your inner wisdom will naturally guide you.
This is where the growth happens.
The next time you notice resistance or the habit of slipping into your default response, ask these questions:
Where is growth possible?
What is limiting me that I don’t see?
And let growth happen!
